Two men have the town talking like never before. Who are they, and what's the talk all about?
All of rural Longbourn is buzzing over the arrival of Charles Bingley, a wealthy young gentleman who is certain to take the social scene by storm. In fact, since his arrival, he has already entertained visitors such as Mr. Bennett, the proud father of the five Bennett girls. We can all agree Mr. Bennett paid the visit for two main reasons- because his wife forced him, and to attempt to find a suitor for the five unmarried girls.
Undoubtedly Mr. Bingley saw right through this, but we speculate he was considerably interested in the five girls. After all, we know it is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a fortune, must be in want of a wife. When questioned about his visit, Mr. Bennett stated: “Oh yes, very amicable young man. Very welcoming. I am sure we will send a dinner invitation presently. But before then, we will be seeing him at the ball in a few days. What a wonderful event for him to meet the girls! We shall have to see what he thinks of my Lizzy.”
And we sure did see what he thought of Elizabeth when we covered the ball last night. He thought she was wonderful, but only had eyes for the eldest of the Bennet sisters, Jane. Jane and Mr. Bingley were together on the dance floor all night, and seemed to be enjoying each others companies very much.

The real story of the night was in fact with Elizabeth Bennett. The other guest of importance at the ball was Charles Bingley’s good friend, Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy. Mr. Darcy is the member of a very well to do family, and the master of the great estate Pemberly. Elizabeth asked him to dance with her, and he turned her down. What an unthinkable action. We’ll have to pay closer attention to him over the next couple of weeks- is he as arrogant and obnoxious as he seems, or is there more to him that originally suspected? One thing is for sure- his ridiculous showing of pride at the ball has certainly prejudiced Elizabeth Bennett and her family against him.
